At Thursday’s Purchase Line School Board Meeting, the board heard from their business manager about how the Covid-19 pandemic may affect the district financially.
During her presentation, business manager Abbey Romagna said that the local revenue impact could mean a 4-6 percent decrease in real estate tax collections and a 10-25 percent decrease in collections from the earned income tax among others. She feels the district could lose about $574,000 in local, state and federal revenues. To that end, she did make a few recommendations that the board should keep in mind, including a spending freeze and only buying what is necessary, a hiring freeze, extending tax deadlines by a month, and take a second look at proposed budget cuts without going into personnel.
She also urged district residents to take a survey concerning broadband capability.
The survey can be done online at www.weneedbroadband.com or by calling 1-855-301-9441.
In other business, the board approved suspension of the grading policy for this year, and grading the students on the first three quarters of the school year. The board also approved hiring Brad Dubetsky and Brent Kordish as assistant football coaches for next year and Kristina Small as an assistant cross country coach.
