WDAD is your station for the melodies, harmonies and memories of the 50s and early 60s on Jim’s Doowwop Show every Sunday evening from 9 until midnight. You can phone in your requests to 724-349-1450 during the show or email your requests and comments anytime to mr.doowop@yahoo.com. Learn more about host Jim McCardle here.

Jim’s Doowop Show is dedicated to keeping the music of the vocal groups from the 50s and early 60s alive. The show is live and local featuring the songs that were heard nationally AND the songs that were popular only in western Pa. The hits and the obscure music from the doowop era are all played throughout the 3 hour show.

Every Sunday artists such as the Flamingos, Dubs, Five Satins, Penguins, Earls, Dion, El Dorados, Platters, Moonglows, Five Keys, Marcels, Skyliners, Duprees, Heartbeats, and Crests are played. Contemporary groups such as Kenny Vance and the Planotones, who are still trying to keep the music alive, are also featured.

Finally, there is the occasional “extra” – pop songs that were hits during the doowop era (e.g.- songs by Everly Brothers, Fats Domino, Elvis, Marty Robbins, Buddy Holly, Del Shannon, Roy Orbison, etc.).
Jim’s Doowop Show is three hours of 1st generation rock n roll that preceded Motown, the British Invasion, and “shock jocks”. Most of the songs are oldies that are now too old for oldies radio. Hopefully the show is judged on the selection and sequencing of music and not the announcing. The music is the real star of the show . I’d rather listen along with you to the music than waste precious air-time with too much talk. There is no whining. There are no bagpipes.

Ths knowledge of the listeners concerning the music from the doowop era (circa 1952-1963) continually amazes me. I’ve learned as much about the times and music from callers as they have from me. It is my hope that listeners to Jim’s Doowop Show can relive the days when each station had it’s own playlist and was dedicated to good time entertainment.
