Residents advised to place woody debris curbside

Indiana Borough begins its fall limb collection program tomorrow, a week in advance of the start of leaf collection season.

Director of Public Works Dave Fairman says residents may place tree limbs, not larger than six inches in diameter, between the sidewalk and curb on the day after their normal trash collection.  That means that residents of the first ward should place their limbs curbside on Tuesday, the fourth ward on Wednesday, the second ward on Thursday, and the third ward on Friday.  The limbs will be collected and put through the obrough’s chipper, then taken to the recycling center.  Fairman says it’s important that residents only place limbs and woody debris, not garden refuse such as vines or other materials, and definitely not leaves.  Leaf collection will start next week, and the machine that sucks up leaves will not pick up limbs.  Conversely, the chipper shredder is not made for leaves.  When leaf collection starts next week, borough crews will work a set route that will cover as much of the town in a day as possible.  That process will last well into November.
