$3.25 million for Phase C

The Corbett administration yesterday announced funding for 54 Economic Growth Initiative grants for community development projects in 28 counties.  Included in the grants is $3.25 million for Indiana Borough’s $13 million Streetscape project.

The funding is for Phase C, according to the state.  Phase C is the fourth and final part of the project, encompassing the 600, 700, and 800 blocks of Philadelphia Street.

Phase A was completed in 2009 on Philadelphia Street from 9th to 10th.  Phase B1 was finished last year, along Philadelphia Street from 5th to 6th.  Preliminary work is being done for Phase B2, which is a redesign of North 7th Street and also involves repairing the retaining wall along Water Street and replacing the historic Vinegar Hill steps.  Work is scheduled to ramp up on that phase in the next month.

Several projects in neighboring counties also were funded, including $2 million for a health care facility in Punxsutawney; and a project that should mean jobs for some Indiana County residents: a million dollars for JWF Industries to expand its operations at a location along Cramer Pike, which leads from Indiana County into Cambria County.
