A Dilltown woman is free on $10,000 bond as she awaits court action on charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.  State police say evidence suggests that the woman has been abusing her 7-year-old daughter for some time.

33-year-old Rebecca Lynn  Smith of Armerford Road in East Wheatfield Township is accused of causing a severe sprain to the girl’s left wrist and a lacerated lip.  The girl had been sent to the Emergency Room by the United Elementary School nurse last Thursday, and police were called. 

The investigation is ongoing.  Smith posted bond yesterday after spending the weekend in the Indiana County Jail.  She has a preliminary hearing tomorrow morning before District Judge Jennifer Rega.
