Downtown Indiana renaissance continues

The prep work is almost complete, and the next phase of Indiana’s Streetscape project is about to get underway.

Downtown Indiana yesterday announced that People’s Gas Company workers today will begin the final work on the installation of new gas lines beneath North 7th Street between Water Street and Nixon Avenue.  It will take about two weeks to finish up the project, which is being paid for by the gas company.

It should not be long after that the Streetscape “Phase 2B” work will begin.  North 7th will have an all-new look, with a redesigned traffic flow and other changes.  The Vinegar Hill steps will be replaced and the retaining wall along Water Street will be repaired.

Downtown Indiana says it will release more information on the Phase 2B construction schedule as it becomes available.  This is the third of four phases of the $13 million Streetscape project.  The final phase is scheduled tentatively to begin sometime next year, covering Philadelphia Street from 6th to 9th
