Today is the second day of three days of voting by faculty members at IUP and the 13 other state system universities on a tentative four-year contract with the State System of Higher Education.

The results will be taken to the APSCUF headquarters in Harrisburg to be counted on Friday.  The tentative deal must also be voted on by the State System’s board of governors.  That board is not scheduled to meet until April but spokesman Kenn Marshall says the board could schedule a special meeting to ratify the agreement.

If the deal is approved by both sides, it would put in place a contract that will be retroactive to July 2011.  Faculty members have been working under the terms of an old contract since its expiration in June 2011.  The new contract resembles others reached by the Corbett administration with other statewide unions.  The provisions include a salary freeze in the first year and then increases in the three remaining years.  Changes to healthcare are also involved, including higher co-pays for office visits, emergency room visits and prescriptions.
