On to Saltsburg, Apollo, and Vandergrift today

The annual PA Hero Walk made its way into Indiana County yesterday, as nine men trekked 18 miles from Ligonier to Blairsville, where they were greeted with a parade.

The annual walk is a journey of 320 miles from Philadelphia to New Kensington.  It began June 9th and will conclude on Saturday at the VFW Post 92 in Lower Burrell.

The Pa Hero Walk raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project, and an appreciative crowd yesterday heard from Jeremy Feldbusch, the Blairsville native who was severely injured in the war in Iraq and who later became the first national spokesman for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The walk route today is a challenging one.  After leaving Blairsville at 8 AM, they plan to walk fifteen miles to Saltsburg, arriving by 1 o’clock.  Then it’s 25 more miles, with a 6 PM stop in Apollo and finishing up for the day at 7 o’clock at the American Legion in Vandergrift.
