STATE LEGISLATURE HOLDS RARE THURSDAY SESSION

6/21/2013

With a little more than a week left to come to an agreement on a state budget, the state Legislature remained in session yesterday.  There was no action though on Gov. Corbett’s budget priorities.

The Senate made no progress on a bill that would privatize that state-controlled wine and liquor store system or on privatizing the state’s employee pension system.  The House has also not moved on Senate Bill One – the massive $2.5 billion transportation bill that passed the Senate earlier this month.

That bill has come under fire because it raises gas taxes 28.5 cents over a period of several years and greatly increases fees on traffic fines.  The Legislature is facing a deadline of June 30th for a budget deal.
