State police fire marshal Tim Frew yesterday ruled that the July 1st fire that destroyed the Rustic Acres furniture store along West Pike was arson. The blaze caused more than two million dollars damage. The fire was discovered by Indiana Borough police officer John Scherf on his way to work at around 8 o’clock on that Thursday morning. The fast-moving flames completely engulfed the building, which also housed the Indiana County Blind Association.
The business owned by David and Donna Reed moved to Indiana from DuBois in 1999. The Reeds purchased the former Country Manor furniture store, located in a former dairy barn on property that was once one of Indiana County’s largest farms. David Reed has said he will rebuild the furniture store. The loss was insured.
State police ask anyone with information on the arson to contact them at 724-357-1960.
