The Indiana Area School Board last night approve the hiring of Robert Rizzo as the new principal at Ben Franklin Elementary School. and heard about the roof projects at three of the elementary schools. Sean Yoder has more.
Rizzo had been the assistant principal at the senior high school. To replace Rizzo at the high school, the board approved Paula Daskivich as the acting assistant high school principal. Daskivich will come out of retirement to serve in the psition until a permanent assistant principal can be hired. She had served as the high school principal before retiring two years ago.
In other Indiana Area news, board member Walter Schroth said that Constellation, the firm handling the district building upgrades, has come forward with the bids for the elementary roof projects at Horace Mann, Ben Franklin and Eisenhower elementary schools. Schroth said that he hopes to recommend a bidder to the board at the next meeting on November 13. Since there are negotiations still ongoing, the bidders have not been made public.
Board President Tom Harley said the board is examining graduation requirements, which have not been updated in over a decade, to bring them in line with state requirements. These discussions came out of a board retreat on September 22. No specifics have been discussed publicly yet. Board member and academic committee chair Brian Peterson said they want to make sure the district is giving students the technical skills to find employment, and will look at possibly implementing career tracks.
