When the wheels on the bus go round and round today, there may be an extra passenger on board. State troopers will be riding some school buses as part of Operation Safe Stop, in conjunction with National School Bus Safety Week.
The police will target bus routes that have a high incidence of illegal passes by motorists who ignore the flashing red lights and extended stop arms. State police cruisers will also be following some buses today, in an effort to get the message across to drivers about the state’s stopped school bus statute.
The fine for violating the law is $250, a sixty-day license suspension, and five points on your driving record.
