Damage could be as high as $50 million to the Creps United Publications plant along West Philadelphia Street.

As we’ve reported, the fire on Tuesday morning appears to have started in one of the plant’s printing presses and spread quickly to the rest of the massive 75,000 square foot building.

Local officials with the county’s Planning and Development office have offered their assistance to Creps United Publishing officials, even discussing the possibility of using the former Gorell Windows and Doors plant.

Assistance is in the works for the plant employees. Exact times aren’t available yet but sessions are expected for employees on Friday at Indiana County’s Careerlink office.  Meanwhile, praise is coming in from county officials from the many firefighters who assisted in the effort to put out the flames on Tuesday, with Commissioner Rod Ruddock lauding businesses that employ firefighters and allow them to leave their jobs to fight fires.

Indiana Fire Association Chief Chuck Kelly says the effort involved not only firefighters from across the region, but also people from the area’s businesses and restaurants, who provided assistance to crews on the scene.
