APSCUF/STATE SYSTEM TALKS RESUME TODAY
Negotiations planned today and next Friday

11/2/2012

A source close to the negotiations between the State System of Higher Education and its faculty union says that when talks resume today, there are fifteen points that APSCUF wants to bring up.  However, when one looks at a partial listing of those points, it becomes clear that most of them are different angles on three main issues: salary for temporary faculty, health care for current and retired faculty, and the state’s insistence on discontinuing compensation for faculty for the development of distance education courses.  There is already agreement on the compensation package for full-time faculty.

Three negotiating sessions are planned this month.  After today, the two sides will meet next Friday.  Meanwhile, union delegates have already authorized a strike, and faculty members at each university will vote November 12th, 13th, and 14th on whether or not their leaders may call a work stoppage.

APSCUF members have been working without a contract since the last deal expired on June 30th, 2011.
