Congressman in line to be named chair of Transportation/Infrastructure

With funding for highway construction so difficult to come by, every edge one can find is important, and there may be a glimmer of hope coming from the nation’s capitol today.  9th District Representative Bill Shuster is the favorite to be named the chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  That’s the same post his father held during his time in Congress.

The House Republican Steering Committee and the House Republican Conference are to hold votes today.  Shuster said yesterday he is cautiously optimistic about winning the vote, and if he does, he says he wants to help guide the discussion on rebuilding not just the nation’s roads and bridges, but its rail, waterway, and aviation systems.  Shuster says the funds to pay for all of those programs would come from users’ fees, such as the gas tax.
