A doctor from Altoona has teamed up with the Indiana Regional Medical Center to bring a new medical clinic to Indiana County, and it’s a unique concept.
The Empower 3 Center for Health in Marion Center will be the second clinic operated by Dr. Zane Gates and his partner, Patrick Reilly, an insurance broker from Buffalo, New York. It specifically reaches out to people who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid but do not earn enough to be able to afford private insurance. Subscribers purchase full insurance coverage for $99 per month, with the requirement that they use the new clinic or IRMC for the health care.
The clinic will be staffed by both paid employees and volunteers, and the medications they offer will be free because they are approaching their expiration dates.
Gates operates a free clinic in Altoona in affiliation with Altoona Regional Health System, but this venture is independent of that one. Gates says he and Reilly hope to be able to expand throughout the region and state, and eventually open clinics nationwide.
