Employee demonstrations are planned at some Walmart stores across the country tonight and into tomorrow, as workers voice their opposition to the retail giant opening for Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving.

The union-backed employee group OUR Walmart was behind similar protests in recent months, with members speaking out over issues such as wages and benefits. Officials say demonstrations could hit around 1,000 of Walmart's 4,500 stores across the nation, including two Pittsburgh area stores and another in Beaver County.

Meanwhile, the Corporate Action Network out of Washington has compiled a list of protests at Walmart stores across the nation and invites site visitors to “adopt” a protest. The web site lists a demonstration scheduled for noon on Friday at the Walmart store in White Township. The other Walmarts in our area, including Punxsutawney and Blairsville, are listed on the site, but no protests are planned.
