Statistics only for accidents handled by state police

Seven people were killed in accidents investigated by state police on Pennsylvania highways over the five-day Christmas holiday driving period.  Another 315 were injured in 1,336 crashes.

108 of the crashes and one fatality in the period from last Friday through Tuesday were alcohol-related.  State troopers made 348 DUI arrests and wrote 2,152 speeding tickets.  They also cited 313 people for not wearing seatbelts and 37 for not having their children properly restrained in child safety seats.  Two of the seven fatally-injured people were not buckled up.

Last year, there were five fatalities over the Christmas holiday driving period, which was a four-day weekend.
