By the end of the year, you should be able to head online to check the cleanliness at restaurants across Indiana County and the entire state of Pennsylvania.
The state Department of Agriculture is working on a system to put together thousands of restaurant inspection reports that are filed every month by counties and municipalities.
The reports will be posted on the department’s website. Reports are already online for inspections conducted by the department itself in communities that don’t have their own inspectors. Since January of 2011, a state law has required health departments across the state to submit monthly health reports.
The law doesn’t demand online access to the reports, but state officials say they decided to allow it in the interest of transparency. Some technical problems have slowed progress on the new website but officials say it should be ready before the end of the year.
