INDIANA RESERVISTS BACK ON U.S. SOIL
Returning home from Afghanistan after one-year deployment

1/25/2013

The members of the Army Reserve 420th Engineer Company are headed home to Indiana.  They landed in Texas this morning, will undergo about a week of debriefing, and should be home soon.

Indiana Mayor George Hood got the word this morning from the wife of a reservist.  He says he wants people to plan to line the route as the buses roll into town, and he expects to know soon when that will be.

The troops left last January for deployment to Afghanistan, and they’ve been doing dangerous work, seeking out and neutralizing improvised explosive devices along streets and highways. Indiana’s reservists have the name “Clearance” attached to their unit name to distinguish their specialized roles in clearing the way of IEDs.  The mission also includes training Afghan military units to do what the Indiana reservists do.

There have been some injuries in combat situations, but no one has been killed and at last word it appeared that none of the injuries have been catastrophic.

We will let you know more as the story develops and information on the homecoming becomes available.
