FLU STILL WIDESPREAD ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA

2/6/2013

Emergency departments and urgicare centers across the state are still seeing a high level of flu cases.  According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the flu is still widespread across the state and levels of the flu are still much higher than they usually are at this time of the year.

They do say, however, that there has been a decline in emergency room visits compared to a month ago. For example, more than 1,900 cases were reported across the state last week, compared to more than 3,600 cases the week before.

In the week ending on February 2nd, 21 people died due to the flu, bringing the season’s total to 123 deaths.  There has still been just one death associated with the flu in Indiana County.

More than 300 cases of the flu have been reported here and health officials say that number could be much higher, since many people don’t get the lab tests that is required to confirm the existence of the flu in someone who is sick.
