If you live in the 7-2-4 area code, three new numbers will come into the area.

The State Public Utility commission announced that due to a growing demand for phone numbers in the 7-2-4 region, the area will be assigned a new 8-7-8 area code.  The roll-out of the 8-7-8 area code will depend on when the region will run out of phone numbers, which could be anytime from two months to a year from now.

The PUC is saying that the 8-7-8 phone numbers will be primarily handed out in the 7-2-4 region, which includes Indiana County, but once the 4-1-2 area code exhausts its numbers, the commission will assign 8-7-8 phone numbers to the 4-1-2 region as well.
