A Blairsville man, charged in the robbery of the Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Derry earlier this month, will stand trial.  Gregory Dorough waived a preliminary hearing this week in Westmoreland County.

Derry police say he taped road flares to his chest and plugged an iPod earbud into his nose to make it seem like an explosive device, and threatened to blow up the store when he walked in shortly before 2 o’clock on April 1st.  He demanded oxycontin painkillers and got away with 1,746 pills in a burlap sack.

Police say tips from the public led them to track down Dorough, who reportedly had become addicted to painkillers after back surgeries.  When they showed up at his door, he surrendered and confessed, turning over the pills, some of which were hidden in a candy box and some secreted away above some ceiling tiles. A store employee also identified him through a photo lineup.
