Policy expected to be implemented for new school year

The Marion Center School Board took a first look Monday evening at its policy concerning people allowed to carry weapons at the schools.

The purpose of the new policy is to have a standard operating procedure for people who are authorized to carry weapons, like the school security staff that was recently hired.  Provisions include procedure on how to report a missing weapon, to when and where to shoot if shooting is necessary.  Superintendent Dr. Frank Garritano said that the policy was crafted after some careful research into other school districts and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

This was only the first reading of the new policy, but it is expected to be passed in time for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
