Board sets dates for decisions

The Indiana Area School Board set dates for decisions on elementary grade realignment on October 28 and high school restructuring in November 12. All committees were instructed to dedicate upcoming meetings to discuss and bring forth their concerns to the full board.

The district’s solicitor, Andrews and Price of Pittsburgh, said the decision can be overturned. Any decision made will not bind the hands of the next elected school board, which will be seated in December.

Junior High Music Teacher Julianne Laird will be presenting at the American String Teachers National Conference in Louisville,Kentucky, on March 5. Her focus is on music and dyslexia.

The board authorized the administration to post for another first grade elementary teacher at Eisenhower Elementary. The two first grade classes have both grown to 23 students, up from 21 at the start of the school year.

The Indiana Area Education Association teamed up with the school board to ensure the extended health care coverage of the family of Mark Hess, the Indiana Junior High teacher and high school swim coach who passed away on September 6. Hess served the district for 30 years.

The board also voted to end the wrestling co-op with Homer Center and Apollo-Ridge school districts. The hope is to get Indiana's wrestling program down to PIAA Class AA.
