Route 119/22 interchange to be named in honor of Staff Sgt. Glen Stivison Jr.

By unanimous vote, the state House yesterday passed a bill that would rename the Route 119/Route 22 interchange in Burrell Township in honor of a fallen Indiana County soldier.

34-year-old Staff Sergeant Glen Stivison Jr. was killed on October 15th, 2009 when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an improvised explosive device near the Kandahar Bridge in Afghanistan.  The Blairsville High School graduate was a highly decorated soldier who was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart following his death. Stivison was a combat engineer who earned seven Army Achievement medals, four Army Good Conduct medals, two Overseas Service ribbons, and many other medals and ribbons.

Stivison was survived by his wife, Eryn, and their children, William and Andrew, his parents, who are from Blairsville, and numerous other relatives from Blairsville and Homer City.

Representative Dave Reed said yesterday that Stivison was an American hero.

House Bill 1410 now goes to the Senate for consideration.
