Security measures coming for township building

White Townshipc urrently has about $71,000 in uncollected municipal fees. Now, residents who haven’t paid will receive notice that further legal action will be taken.  Township Solicitor Michael Delaney said that they have never fully gone through with a sheriff’s sale. But that may change if residents do not pony up for their past-due municipal services. These can be for sewer (the largest of the unpaid fees), hydrant and light.

Residents receive three notices for being past due. The second one of these is a lien on the property and notice via certified mail. The final one is a 30-day notice. About 60 different property owners will receive one these notices.  Delaney advised those who have not paid to do so before legal action, as court costs can quickly build up to an even bigger bill.

In other news from last night's supervisors' meeting:

  • The township will be installing security cameras at the municipal building in the coming weeks. The system costs about $4,000 and covers all doors, the bridge, fuel tanks and lobby.

  • The township office will be closed on President’s Day, February 17. The staff will take that day for records management, purging and organizing.

  • S&T Bank recently complied in helping to lower the payments on a $2 million loan. The township paid about $400,000 on the principal, and with only $600,000 left on the loan, the interest rate on the loan has fallen from 5.9 percent to 2.8 percent. The loan was taken out for multiple road projects.
