Russell J. Niehenke, 82, of Home, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A son of the late Eugene Wesley and Ethel Hocherd Niehenke, he was born June 8, 1930 in Allenville, Somerset County.
Mr. Niehenke retired from North American Coal Company after 40 years of service. He attended the Creekside Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wrestling on television, playing with his little dog, Ben, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two children, Russell E. Niehenke and wife Janet, of Home; Sonza Marasco and husband Robert, of Shelocta; two brothers, Paul Niehenke, of Pittsburgh; Kennard Niehenke, of Penn Run; two sisters, Emma Seasock, of Indiana; Ethel Louetta Black, of Medina, OH; four grandchildren: Toby Marasco, Lacy Gohn and husband Brian, Dustin Niehenke and wife Michele, and Jared Niehenke and wife Erin; four great-grandchildren: Justin and Isabella Gohn, and Kira and Hayden Niehenke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Pearl Keeler Niehenke in 2004.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. in Indiana where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Jim Glasscock officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
