MICHAEL J. McGINNIS, 56

Michael J. McGinnis, age 56, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Indiana, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the Suncoast Hospice House Brookside in Palm Harbor, Fla.

 

A son of James L. and Mary Kay Murray McGinnis, he was born April 24, 1956, in Eugene, Ore.

 

Mr. McGinnis was a 1974 graduate of Indiana High School and a 1979 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Mike was an elementary physical education teacher in the Pinellas County School District in the Tampa Bay area of Florida prior to his retirement in 2010.

 

He is survived by his mother, Mary Kay McGinnis, of Indiana; four siblings: James McGinnis and wife Sharon, of Indiana; Kathy Detwiler and husband Robert, of Worthington; Daniel McGinnis and wife Michelle, of Harrisburg; and Teresa Kensey and husband Dave, of Indiana; his companion’s son, Daniel Boyce, of Clearwater, Fla.; eight nieces and nephews: Matthew Detwiler, Erin McGinnis Wilson, Shannon McGinnis, Christy Detwiler Welton, Megan Kensey Boslet, Kelly McGinnis, Adam Kensey, and Katie McGinnis; four great-nieces and nephews: Gavin and Luke Detwiler, Anna and Emma Wilson and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. McGinnis; and his longtime companion, Cheryl Boyce.

 

Receiving of friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. of Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Fr. William J. Kiel officiating.  Private family interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum.

 

Indiana was very dear to Mike and he always enjoyed coming back and visiting his hometown.  In the spirit of Christmas and the beautification of downtown Indiana, the family requests in lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Lucy Donnelly Memorial Fund, c/o the Indiana Gazette, 899 Water Street, Indiana, PA 15701.
