Katherine C. Niehenke, 84, of Clymer, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at her residence.
A daughter of the late Iral I. and Cora Gibson Savage, she was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Cherryhill Township, Indiana County.
Mrs. Niehenke was a 1948 graduate of Indiana High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, where she was active in the church and the ladies auxiliary. In the many years Mrs. Niehenke served on the Penns Manor School Board, at one time, she also filled the chairs of president and treasurer. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, sewing, crocheting, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening.
She is survived by four children: Bradley Niehenke and wife Andrea, of Clearlake, Calif.; David Niehenke and wife Diana, of Elk Grove, Calif.; Debra Livingston and husband William, of Indiana; and Bruce Niehenke, of Clymer; two brothers: Kenneth Savage and wife Dana, of Grays Lake, Ill.; and Gary Savage and wife Barbara, of Clymer; a sister, Marilyn Clawson and husband Merle, of Santa Clara, Calif.; 11 grandchildren: Julie, Greg, Kathy, Derek, Zachery, Cori, Korinna, Kaitlin, Kelsee, Tyler and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kennard E. Niehenke in 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Church of Christ, 225 East Pike, Indiana, with Scott Mansfield and Douglas Irwin officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery. Robinson-Lytle, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.
