KENNETH “JIM” BRILHART

 

Kenneth James “Jim” Brilhart, age 87, of Cookport, passed away Thursday, April 17, at St. Andrew’s Village. Friends of Jim Brilhart will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 21, at the Rairigh Funeral Home in Hillsdale. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at the Montgomery Church of the Brethren. Pastor Sandy Peterman will officiate. Interment will follow at the Montgomery Cemetery in Grant Township.

            Kenneth James “Jim” Brilhart, 87, of Cookport, Pa., died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana, Pa.

            The son of Matthew and Bertha (Rairigh) Brilhart, he was born on May 29, 1926 in Grant Township, Indiana County, Pa.

            Jim was very strong in his faith and his church. He was a lifelong member of the Montgomery Church of the Brethren, where he served as a trustee and as a member of the building committee.

He retired from Barr Machine of Barr Slope, Pa. Jim’s working career also encompassed his employment in Erie, Pa., at the following companies: Yates Plastic; Bucyrus Series and General Electric and more locally, the Indiana County Aging Services.

            Jim greatly enjoyed attending performances by gospel music groups, social events, family socials and reunions. He was a faithful attendee of the Cookport Fair, his local community fair. He was involved as a member of the Montgomery Cemetery Board.

            Jim married his late wife, Eileen (Stevens) Reed Brilhart on July 31, 1972.

            He is survived by his brother-in-law, Merle Shilling of Johnstown, PA; his nephews: Donald King and wife Virginia of Home, PA and Kenneth Shilling of Johnstown, PA; his nieces: Jane States and husband Ron of Rochester Mills, Sarah Clayton of Shelocta, PA and Joanne Getty of Kent, PA and his numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Jim is also survived by his three step-children: David Reed and wife Kathy of Ohio; Kimberly Rickard and her fiancé James Gray, Jr. of Northern Cambria, Pa., and Deborah Goss of Marion Center, Pa.

            Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mae (Small) Brilhart; Eileen Brilhart; his two sisters: Lucille (Brilhart) King and LeVon (Brilhart) Shilling and his two brothers: Charles and LeRoy Brilhart.

            Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Montgomery Church of the Brethren. Pastor Sandy Peterman will  officiate. Interment will follow at the Montgomery Cemetery in Grant Township, Indiana County.

            Jim’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of St. Andrew’s, as well as the families of the other residents, who took the time to visit with Jim during his stay.
