Helen L. Berkey, 89, of Shelocta, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
A daughter of the late Bert and Jessie Sutton Conrad, she was born Jan. 16, 1923 in Homer City.
Mrs. Berkey lived all of her life in the Indiana County area, where she was a 1941graduate of Indiana Area High School. She was a homemaker and throughout her life, she was a waitress at Coulter’s in Shelocta and had worked at Frank’s Flowers in Indiana. Mrs. Berkey volunteered at Indian Haven and was a faith caregiver for her mother, husband and brother.
She is survived by two children: Andria Berkey, of Kittanning; and Thomas Berkey and wife Carol, of Shelocta; five grandchildren: Tammi Clark, Adam Gamble, Rachel Mains, Jennifer Smith and husband Jarrod, and Thomas Berkey II and wife Chrissy; five great-grandchildren, including the new light of her life, Zachary Berkey; godson, Jeffrey Davis, of Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews; special family: Michael and Debbie Scorce; special friend, Shirley Spangler; and the boys from Fresh Flower’s.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Bernon Berkey; two brothers: Cecil Conrad and Phillip Conrad; and a sister, Mae Conrad Cochran.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Sunday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Dr. Horace Derr officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
