Mary A. (Zaffuto) Sgriccia, 92, of Clymer, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at her home.
The daughter of Gaspar and Verna (Fantuzzo) Zaffuto, she was born April 1, 1920, in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed golfing, reading and traveling. Mrs. Sgriccia was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Clymer where she served as President of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, Indiana Hospital Auxillary, Twolick Social Center, and Indiana Country Club. She was a graduate of the Indiana Hospital School of Nursing. During her career as a registered nurse, she worked for Indiana Hospital, Dr. Kenneth Sayers, and Dr. A.K. Laorr. She was one of the initial people instrumental in getting the Visiting Nurses Association established in Indiana County.
She is survived by two children, Richard Sgriccia of Reno, Nevada, Rosemary Bolinger and husband Donald of Clymer; four brothers and sisters: Joseph Zaffuto and wife Margaret of OH, Nancy Dragin of CA, Sister Rosemary Zaffuto, ASCJ of Greensburg, Jasperine Gyure and husband Daniel of OH; five grandchildren: Matthew Sgriccia and wife Sharon, Cynthia Feil and husband Michael, Stephanie Sgriccia, Dr. Bryan Bolinger, Dawne-Marie Likhodedova and husband Anton; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Alexis Feil.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent G. Sgriccia; one sister, Jane Caramela; and one brother, Carl Zaffuto.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Harry J. Bence Funeral Home, Clymer. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
