Charles Robert Lambing, 82, of Clymer, PA passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The son of William P. and Adalene (Postlewaite) Lambing, he was born on May 6, 1930 in Dixonville, PA.
Mr. Lambing graduated from the Clymer High School in the Class of 1948. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and served twenty years before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He graduated from the US Naval Submarine School on December 16, 1948.
During his Naval career spanning World War II and the Korean War, he served on the following submarines and stations: USS Conger (SS-477); USS Sennet (SS-408); USS Angler (SS-241); USS Balao (SS-285); USS Archerfish (SS-311); USS Trutta (SS-421); USS Barbel (SS-580); USS John Marshall (SSBN-611-Blue); USS Piper (SS-409); USS Tecumseh (SSBN-628-Gold); AEWRON Two (VW-2); NAVRECSTA at Columbus, OH and the USS Patrick Henry (SSBN-599-Gold).
He is a member of the American Legion Post 0945 in Harrisburg, PA.
Mr. Lambing married his first wife, Nancy Lambing, on August 8, 1962. He married his second wife, Louella (Long) Lambing on December 21, 1991.
Mr. Lambing is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Louella Lambing of Clymer, PA; his son Thomas Lambing of Indiana, PA and his daughter, Charlene Weygandt and husband Mick of Wooster, OH; his four stepchildren: Sharon Clawson and husband, David, of Clymer, PA; Linda Moody and husband Ben of Sarasota, FL; Bernard Eugene Dilts and wife Tracy of Dayton, PA and Brenda Hagerman and husband, Barry, of Clymer, PA and his five step grandchildren: David “D.J.” Clawson; Taylor Clawson; Brandon Troup and Deven Troup, all of Clymer, PA and Christopher Logan Dilts of Dayton, PA.
He is also survived by his sister: Thelma Schurr of Indiana, PA; Russell Wayne Lambing and wife Priscilla of Home, PA and Dennis Lambing and wife Linda of Creekside, PA.
Mr. Lambing was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy Lambing in 1989; his sisters: Clara Lambing in 1925; Faye Dahlgreen and Bethia St. Clair; his brothers: Clarence Lambing in 1933 and William Lambing; his father-in-law, Elmer Long on Sept. 20, 1982 and his mother-in-law, Essie Long on Oct. 30, 2010.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4:00 and 7-9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where an 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013. Rev. Dr. Daryl S. Jeffers will officiate. Interment will follow at the Uniontown Cemetery in Green Township. Military honors will be accorded by the Clymer American Legion Post 222.
