Mary V. (Kovalish) Cowan,89, of Latrobe (formerly of Brenizer) died peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at her daughter’s home. She was born February 10, 1924 in Rural Ridge. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Kovalish. Mary graduated from Derry Township High School in 1944. She was a retired seamstress from GLR Apparel, Blairsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene C. Cowan, her son Patrick E. Cowan, sisters Nan Beer, Katherine Soltis, Sophie Colesar, and Margaret Bush and brothers John, Joseph, Anthony, and Michael Kovalish.

She is survived by her loving daughter Sandra B. Fritz of Latrobe, Grandson Timothy P. Cowan and wife Darlene of Blairsville, Granddaughter Tammy L. Pizer and husband Robert Pizer Jr. of Blairsville, Great-grandsons, Nicholas P. and Tyler D. Cowan and Great-granddaughters Kaylee and Kristina Pizer. Inlaws include: daughter in law Charmaine Cowan of Blairsville and son in law Edwin Fritz, Jr. of Latrobe and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was an avid baker and enjoyed many hours of crocheting and knitting. She loved boating, camping, and spending time with family. She especially cherished time spent with her beloved great- grandsons!

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, visitation and services will be privately held at Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville. Services will be officiated by Nelson Confer with the interment to follow at Twin Valley Cemetery. A very special thanks to Heartland Hospice, especially Lori, Lisa, Mary, and Marty. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society.
