Ralph C. “Barney” Trinkley, 93, of Clymer, PA died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Scenery Hill Manor, Indiana, PA.

The son of Frank J. and Ella (Burnheimer) Trinkley, he was born on January 22, 1920 in Heilwood, PA. Barney was one of the first children born at the former Heilwood Hospital.

He attended the Heilwood School.

Barney served in the US Army as a PFC overseas during World War II, where he was involved in campaigns at Normandy, Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars.

He was a lifetime member of the Glen Campbell American Legion Post #435 and the Indiana VFW Post #1989.

Barney was a member of the Gipsy Christian Church and had attended the First Baptist Church in Glen Campbell, PA.

After thirty-three years of employment as a steelworker at Bethlehem Steel, he retired on July 31, 1981.

Barney’s hobbies included planting flowers, doing yardwork and working on projects around his home.

He is survived by his son, James K. Mason and wife Evelyn of Fredricksburg, VA; his son-in-law, James C. Salsgiver of Clymer, PA; three grandchildren: Kim Russell Mason and wife Debbie of Bompass, VA; Mark W. Salsgiver and wife Kelly of Long Beach, CA and Erik M. Salsgiver and wife Melanie of Destin, FL; ten great grandchildren: Thomas, Robert and Jessica Mason; Jake, Eileen, Mason and Emma Salsgiver and Michael, Rachel and Gabriel Henderson and his two brothers: Jerald Jenkins of NC and Frank Trinkley of Clymer, PA.

Barney was preceded in death by his wife, Florence R. (Rainey) Mason Trinkley on January 31, 2000; his daughters: Gail (Mason) Salsgiver on July 4, 2012 and Beckie Lynn Trinkley in 1973; eleven brothers and six sisters.

Family and friends will be received from 3-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA immediately followed by a 4:00 p.m. memorial service at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Allan N. Campbell. Military honors will be accorded by the Glen Campbell American Legion.
