Lois Glassford, 95, of Indiana, formerly of Cherryhill Township, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana.
A daughter of the late Zenas and Florence Sproull Stephens, she was born at home near Penn Run, on Sept. 5, 1917. She married William A. Glassford on May 11, 1944. He passed away Oct. 9, 1988.
Lois attended Manor and Penn Run schools, and graduated from Indiana High School in 1935. She attended Indiana State Teacher’s College for a year before accepting a job as a private nanny in Pittsburgh. After marriage, she devoted her life to her children, her church, and assisting in the daily operation of the family farm near Penn Run. Lois was an 85-year member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, a founder of the Penn Run Missionary Women, member of the Eastern Star and the Pennsylvania Farm Women’s Society. Lois will be remembered for her selflessness, gentle nature, and love for her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
Surviving are four children: Cathy Powers and husband Daniel, of Hollidaysburg; William Glassford and wife Kathy, of Indiana; Connie Morris and husband Larry, of Fleetwood; and James Glassford and wife JoAnn, of Clymer; four grandchildren: William J. Glassford, Kenneth J. Glassford, Tim Morris, and Matthew Morris; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Leila Martin, of Reading; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Ella Sleppy, Sara Jean Painter, Clare Willard, and Vera Fee.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11a.m. Saturday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, with Rev. Meg Marley officiating. Private interment will be held in Harmony Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be given to the Harmony Presbyterian Church, 2075 Route 553 Hwy., Penn Run, PA 15765.
