Richard "Dick" Vaughn Bennett, 72, of Home, passed away, Friday, Sept. 13 2013, at his residence.
A son of the late Donald Vaughn and Hazel Louella Edward Bennett, he was born Feb. 27, 1942, in Vintondale.
Mr. Bennett was a 1960 graduate of Penns Manor High School. On Apr. 8, 1961, he married Anna Belle Waltemire, in Winchester, VA. Dick worked for Elkin Farm Equipment and W. H. Johns. He also worked independently for Lydic Trucking, Cherryhill Farms and Hills of Home Farms. Dick was a member of the Independent Drivers Union. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing the lottery, reading books, watching television, and trucks.
He is survived by five daughters: H. Louise Mountan, of Blairsville; Tammy Bowman and husband Bryan, Sr., of Indiana; Melissa Myers and husband Joe, of Commodore; Alice Miller and husband Jim, of Home; and Sharon St. Clair and husband Dean, of Penn Run; six grandchildren: Heather Furic and husband Ivan, of Gainesville, Fla.; Brandon and Benjamin Mountan, of Blairsville; Torrie and Kari Miller, of Home; and Richard Bowman, of Indiana; a brother: James Bennett, of Homer City; two sisters, Patricia Veltre, of Strongstown, and Sheila Hamner, of Thomas, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very large extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle Waltemire Bennett in 2009; an infant sister, Phyllis Bennett; a brother, Rodger Bennett; two grandsons, Zachery Myers in 1993 and Donald J. Bennett in 2009; and a son-in-law, Jerry Ray in 1993.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Sally Lydic officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
