John Henry Rice, Jr., age 79, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 14, at Beacon Ridge. Friends of John Rice, Jr., will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Robinson-Lytle Funeral Home in Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Brush Valley Cemetery.
John Henry Rice, Jr., age 79, of Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 14, at Beacon Ridge.
A son of the late John Henry Rice, Sr., and Erma Elizabeth Coy Rice, he was born March 5, 1935, in Cherry Hill Township.
Mr. Rice lived most of his life in Indiana County, where he attended Penn Run Elementary School and graduated from Indiana High School where he played football and baseball. He attended IUP and Slippery Rock University, and he played baseball in the Indiana County League. Mr. Rice was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, golf, baseball, and all sports in general. Mr. Rice worked as a case worker for the Indiana County Department of Public Welfare and attended Zion Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Fort Knox, Ky.

His wife of 53 years, Janice Marie Stallard Rice
Four children: Sheryl J. Rice, of Lexington, Ky.; John Henry Rice III, of Washington D.C.; Mark M. Rice, of Millersburg; and Cindy Izzo and her husband, Charles, of Purcellville, Va.
Four grandchildren: Connor and Maddie Izzo and Matthew and Carolyn Rice
Numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Rice Daskvesch.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Robinson-Lytle Funeral Home in Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Jane Strohl officiating. Interment will be in Brush Valley Cemetery.
