LOUISE OBERLIN OBITUARY                                    

 

Helen “Louise” Oberlin, 99, formerly of Rochester Mills, PA died on Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Andrews Village in Indiana, PA.

The daughter of Clair and Ethel (Sebring) Burkett, she was born on November 25, 1914 in Grant Twp., Indiana County, PA.

She graduated from Indiana High School in Indiana, PA in the class of 1931.

Louise was a member of the Rockbridge Presbyterian Church in Rochester Mills, PA, where she sang in the choir for many years. During her younger years she played the piano, the organ and the violin.

She was an active member of the former Electa Rebekah Lodge #537 in Rochester Mills, PA and the former Order of the Eastern Star #72 in Punxsutawney, PA, as well as being very active in the Indiana County Republican Party for many years.

Louise enjoyed reading; baking; doing puzzles and dining out with friends. Her real passion was shopping. Louise made many friends while a resident at St. Andrews Village since going there in 2008.

In a quiet way she was always generous to help those in a time of need.

Louise married her husband, the late Ralph C. Oberlin on April 15, 1933 in Indiana, PA and lived in Grant Twp. and in Rochester Mills until 2008.

She was an exceptional mother and a devoted grandmother, who was adored by all of her family.

Louise is survived by her two daughters: Betty J. Fulmer of Indiana, PA and Karen R. Cherry of Goshen, MA and by her two sons: Richard B. Oberlin and wife Nancy of Marion Center, PA and James D. Oberlin and wife Joan of Brookville, PA. She had eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Ralph, who died on November 14, 1980 and her sister, Evanell Keiffer who died in 2012.

Friends will be received from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014           at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where an 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 with Pastor Robert Sunseri officiating. Private interment will be made in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rochester Mills, PA.
