PIRATES WIN EXHIBITION OPENER

2/27/2014

Tony Sanchez belted a three-run homer during a four-run seventh inning to lift the Pirates past the Yankees 6-5 in the Grapefruit League opener in Bradenton.  Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Bucs.  The teams meet again today in Tampa (non-radio game).

Two-time Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana worked out in a bullpen session for major league scouts yesterday, and MLB Network analyst Jon Heyman says the Pirates were one of seven teams interested in the lefty.  Santana last pitched for the Mets in 2012 and is rehabbing after a second shoulder surgery.
