Pennsylvania’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs has awarded almost one million dollars to thirteen colleges and universities, including IUP, to battle drug use and create naloxone training opportunities. The grants are part of nearly $56 million in federal funds provided to the state through the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
IUP will receive $99,888. The money will be used to create a “Protect the Brain” campaign aimed at students, faculty, and staff. IUP’s grant application was prepared by Erick Lauber, the director of the university’s Mid-Atlantic Institute for Research and Training in Community and Behavioral Health, and by Ann Sesti, the director of IUP’s Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drugs Program.
IUP is one of three State System universities included in the grants. Shippensburg and West Chester are the others.
