With school suddenly canceled and students homebound, Indiana County’s school districts are developing plans for making sure children get fed. The United Way and ICCAP are facilitating a meeting of representatives of the county’s schools this morning to discuss options for preparing, packaging, and delivering food, and to pool resources so that all of the county’s children are fed, especially those who rely on the school breakfast and lunch programs.
Meanwhile, Indiana Area is scheduled to start a feeding program on Wednesday as a drive-thru service from 11 AM to 1 PM at the senior high school and a Ben Franklin Elementary. Breakfasts and lunches will be provided in one stop near each school’s front entrance.
The Chevy Chase Community Center will have box lunches for Indiana Area students, using the back door in the parking lot. The lunches will be available from noon to 1 PM Monday through Wednesday, and a double-lunch will be provided on Thursday to also cover Friday.
Spaghetti Benders in Downtown Indiana will offer free spaghetti lunches to all students Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 3 PM during the two-week closure.
