IUP senior guard Malik Miller was one of just 16 players named to the 2020 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coaches’ Division II All-America Team, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in Division II, these student-athletes represent the most outstanding basketball players across America in NCAA Division II.
Miller earns All-America honors from the NABC a day after being selected first team All-Atlantic District by the coaches. He also earned first team all-region honors by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and was the 2020 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Athlete of the Year.
He helped the Crimson Hawks to a 28-2 overall record, PSAC regular season and tournament championships, and the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region for the 2020 NCAA Division II Championships.
Now officially one of the best players in Division II, Miller finished the year seventh in the conference and 16th in the region with 18.5 points per game. He scored in double-figures 27 times in 30 games played with 14 20-point outings. He posted a career-high 32 points against Seton Hill and had games of 30 points against Gannon, 28 against Slippery Rock and 27 against Clarion.
Miller had two double-doubles from his guard spot and made history back on February 19 with the program’s third ever triple-double. He scored 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against Edinboro. He finished the year averaging 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
Miller finished the year shooting 45.4 percent (202-of-445) from the field with 72 made 3-pointers, which ranked sixth in the PSAC. He shot 73.8 percent (79-of-107) from the foul line, was second on the team with 112 assists, and had 38 steals. His 555 total points this year rank 20th in single season program history.
In his four years with the Crimson Hawks, Miller played in 120 games with 64 starts and ranks 12th in program history with 1,525 points. He ranks in the top-10 at IUP with those 120 games played, 200 3-pointers made, 316 assists and 121 steals.
Miller continues run of All-Americans
IUP can boast an All-American for six straight years with Miller’s 2020 honor. The streak started in 2015 with Devante Chance (NABC, Division II Bulletin) and continued with Brandon Norfleet in 2016 (NABC, D2SIDA, DII Bulletin), Jacobo Diaz in 2017 (DII Bulletin), Anthony Glover Jr. in 2018 (DII Bulletin), and Diaz last year (NABC, D2CCA, DII Bulletin).
This marks the ninth time in the last 10 years that IUP has had an All-America selection, dating back to 2010 with Darryl Webb and Thomas Young. Seven of those nine years have seen an NABC All-America, including Webb (2010, 2011), Ashton Smith (2012), Chance (2015), Norfleet (2016), Diaz (2019) and Miller (2020).
