Today marks the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001, when planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. IUP will mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks with their annual ceremony in front of the 9/11 memorial in the Oak Grove at IUP between Stapleton Library and John Sutton Hall.
Guests are allowed to attend the event, but because of Coronavirus concerns, people must adhere to social distancing guidelines and must wear a mask. Speakers will include IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll and Dr. Nadene L’Amoreaux, a professor in the department of counseling. U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Dennis Faulkner, the chair of IUP’s department of military science, will serve as an emcee, and music will be provided by members of the IUP Wind Ensemble.
The event will include a remembrance of three IUP alumni who were lost in the World Trade Center attacks: William Moskal, Donald Jones and William Sugra.
IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said it’s important that the history of the day is remembered and passed on to generations who were not alive when it happened.
The ceremonies start at 8:35 this morning.
