Less than 24 hours after an announcement came out about three Indiana Senior High School students affected by Coronavirus, district superintendent Michael Vuckovich said that other cases have been reported connected with the district.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Vuckovich said the district was notified that an elementary student’s parent had tested positive for the virus. While the student does not attend school in the district, the student does utilize district buses to get to their private school, and the student also attends the same daycare program as some district students. Vuckovich expects that some district students may have to be quarantined, but could not confirm if that was going to happen.
Then around 7:00 PM last night, the district was notified that they should take action to mitigate the possible spread of the virus because a Ben Franklin Elementary student had tested positive for Covid-19, related to the daycare incident. The student was not in class on Thursday. The district is awaiting final determination from the Department of Health, but the Department has recommended that families of a particular class stay home today as a preventative measure. Those families were contacted.
This marks the second case of Covid-19 at Ben Franklin in two weeks. Ben Franklin will remain open today, and over the weekend, the district will continue to their deep cleaning procedures in their buildings.
