For those who live in the 814 area code, today is the day that you must start dialing the area code to make a phone call.
Ten-digit dialing starts today for the 814 area code, which includes portions of Indiana County. PA Public Utility spokesman Nils Hagen-Fredericksen said that the change was needed due to the growing desire for electronic devices that require a phone number.
The 814 area code is one of the four original in Pennsylvania, established in 1947. It’s also the last part of the state where 10-digit dialing had not been a requirement.
