Earlier today, State Representative Jim Struzzi introduced a piece of legislation that will help reduce overdose deaths in Pennsylvania.
In a news release, Struzzi details the bill saying that it will help identify overdoses and prevent them from happening. He cited fentanyl being a major factor in statewide deaths from overdose.
Struzzi’s legislation, titled House Bill 1393, was co-authored by the Armstrong Indiana Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commissoin and would legalize fentanyl test strips for personal use only in the Commonwealth. As of now, those strips are classified as “drug paraphernalia”, but the test strips would be legalized for personal use to detect early signs of overdose.
Struzzi said “As the opioid epidemic reaches catastrophic levels in Pennsylvania, we must continue to make laws and policies that work to save lives.”
The bill will move on to a committee vote.
