What has quickly become an annual tradition begins tonight with the opening ceremony for Flags For Heroes, a display of American flags located on the front lawn of Saint Andrews Village in White Township.
Flags for Heroes is a program of the Indiana Midday Rotary. The display, which is easily visible from Indian Springs Road, features as many as one hundred flags, each of which has a medallion attached to its flag pole honoring or memorializing someone who is a hero to each flag’s sponsor.

Each sponsorship costs fifty dollars, and Midday Rotary’s Dave Schaffer says the funds are then distributed to veterans’ organizations.
Because of the pandemic restrictions at Saint Andrews Village, the ceremony tonight will take place next door, at Marion Center Bank. The bank’s Todd Larmer says sponsors of the flags will then be able to walk over to see their medallion.
The ceremony tonight will begin at 6 PM. The flags will remain on display until June 15th, to encompass both Memorial Day and Flag Day.
