After the chaos of the special voting meeting on June 8th, the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board President said during Tuesday night’s meeting that they will need to be stricter on the rules of order.
Board President Rick Harper mentioned at the end of the meeting that with three new school board members joining next year, they want to change the way meetings are conducted. Harper explained that the rules of order they follow, the O. Garfield Jones rule of order, do not allow individual subset items to be voted on.
The board also discussed the possibility of holding school board meetings in-person starting next month, and they are also considering the district’s health and safety plan, which would make masks optional for students.
The board also approved hiring Kara Gardner as the new principal of Blairsville Elementary School starting July 1st at a salary of $100,000. She used to be an assistant principal at Derry Elementary School and a guidance counselor for Homer-Center School District.
